Plumber invoice template
A plumbing invoice is the bill a plumber or plumbing company issues for repairing, clearing, installing or replacing water supply, drainage and gas piping and the fixtures and appliances connected to them. Plumbing work ranges from a short drain-clearing visit to a full repipe, so the invoice must be able to show a single task price, hourly labor and measured materials on the same document. The plumber invoice template on this page builds that document in the browser and exports a PDF that carries only the plumbing company's own details.

What a plumbing invoice contains
A plumbing invoice identifies the plumbing business, its license number where the state requires one to be shown, the customer and the service address. The description of work explains the problem found and the repair made, for example a failed water heater replaced with a new unit of the same capacity, or a main drain cleared and inspected with a camera. A clear description matters in plumbing because water damage claims and home warranty providers often request the invoice as evidence.
The line items then separate the service call, task-priced work such as drain clearing or fixture installation, hourly labor for work not covered by a task price, and materials. Pipe is usually billed by the foot and fittings by the lot, which the quick-add items reflect with the ft and lot units.
How plumbers bill: task pricing and hourly labor
Many plumbing companies use task pricing, in which common jobs such as clearing a drain, replacing a toilet fill valve or installing a faucet carry a fixed price that includes labor and minor parts. Larger or unpredictable jobs, such as locating a hidden leak or repiping a house, are more often billed by the hour plus materials. An invoice may mix both models, and the template allows task lines, hourly labor and materials to sit side by side.
Water heater installations are commonly priced as a single installation item, with the heater itself listed as material if it is supplied by the plumber. Code-required items such as expansion tanks, seismic straps, drain pans or venting modifications are best listed separately so the customer can see which parts were added to meet code rather than by choice.
Permits and inspections
Water heater replacements, repipes, sewer line repairs and gas line work frequently require a plumbing permit and inspection from the local building department. The permit fee is normally passed through to the customer at cost, and listing it as a separate Permit fee line shows that it is a government charge rather than part of the plumber's labor. Where a re-inspection is needed, the additional fee can be entered on its own line as well.
Emergency call-outs and other plumbing fees
Burst pipes, sewer backups and failed water heaters rarely wait for business hours. Plumbing invoices therefore often include an emergency call-out fee for nights, weekends and holidays, charged in addition to the normal service call. Other trade-specific charges include camera inspection of drain lines, hydro-jetting, disposal of old fixtures and water heaters, and excavation or restoration work subcontracted to others. Each is clearer as its own line than as an unexplained increase in labor.
Payment terms commonly used by plumbers
Residential plumbing service is usually due on completion, with payment collected on site. Property managers, landlords and commercial clients more often receive net terms under an account agreement. Larger projects such as repipes or remodel rough-ins may require a deposit and a progress payment at rough-in inspection before the final invoice. The default terms in the template state payment on completion and pass-through permit fees, and they can be edited to match the company's own policy.
Warranty language is also common: fixtures and water heaters carry the manufacturer's warranty, while the plumber states the workmanship warranty period. Stating both on the invoice gives the customer a single reference document.

Limitations
The template is a billing document. It does not size pipe, calculate fixture units or verify compliance with the plumbing or fuel gas code adopted locally, and it does not replace a permit or an inspection. Licensing rules, permit requirements and sales tax treatment of plumbing labor and materials differ by state and municipality and should be confirmed by the plumbing contractor.
Frequently asked questions
Should a plumbing invoice show the license number?
Many states require licensed plumbing contractors to display their license number on invoices, estimates and advertising. The template includes a license field that prints in the PDF header when it is filled in.
How is pipe billed on a plumbing invoice?
Pipe is commonly billed by the linear foot for each material and size, such as PEX, copper or PVC, with fittings grouped as a lot. The template's PEX pipe item uses the foot as its unit, and other pipe types can be added with the same unit.
Is an emergency call-out fee separate from the service call?
In most plumbing businesses, yes. The service call covers arrival and assessment, and the emergency call-out fee is an additional charge for work outside normal hours. Listing both makes the after-hours portion of the bill explicit.
Can a plumbing invoice include a water heater warranty registration?
The notes field can record the water heater model, serial number and warranty registration details, which then appear on the PDF for the customer's records.
