THE MATH BEHIND THE ANSWER

Method & assumptions

ΔV = k × I × ρ × L × distribution / A

0.5 approximates a uniform distributed load; separate unequal loads require segment-by-segment analysis.

Results do not check every aspect of an electrical installation. The calculators follow US (NEC) practice only; a regional preset changes defaults such as voltage and units, and no result certifies NEC compliance.

Worked example

Voltage: 120 V · Current: 20 A · One-way cable length: 100 ft · Conductor area: 6.53 kcmil · Resistivity at operating temperature: 12.9 Ω·cmil/ft · Effective length factor: 0.5 · Supply: Single phase

Drop: 3.951 V · Drop percentage: 3.292 %

This example uses the stated inputs; results for the entered values appear above.
